  • 50: Embracing a New Normal & Building Community After A Transformation with Kristen Carbone

    20/08/2018 Duration: 48min

In 2013, Kristen Carbone had a preventative mastectomy and reconstruction after losing her own mother to breast cancer years earlier. Healing was a journey through sometimes crippling loneliness, nagging body image issues, and a full spectrum of uncomfortable sensations.  After learning that she wasn’t alone in these experiences, the foundation of Brilliantly, her brand and product (to be launched in late 2018) was born. Brilliantly empowers women to embrace their new self by linking resiliency with comfort, vitality, and community. • REV: Releasing Judgement & Demonstrating Empathy

    15/08/2018 Duration: 12min

In this "Rev" episode, I'm talking  about a recent surge that I've noticed of Mom-bashing or women-bashing on social media. I understand that this is public forum and everyone is entitled to their opinions, but how come it has to be with hostility and judgement? It seems as though social media has made it Ok to walk away from civilized conversation and to really dig the trenches between two sides even deeper. In many ways, social media can offer a space to feel supported - support in your opinions, but it can also be a space where if your opinion differs from the masses, you can easily be ‘torn apart’ so to speak by the people that you might call ‘friends’ or acquaintances. Something I have been working on lately is abandoning judgements and practicing more empathy. Listen in to hear more. I'm excited to announce that I will be launching my second Mastermind program in September, Engine Mom: Behind The Wheel. This is a 6-week accountability program to help you get organized, get motivated and get closer to yo

  • REV: Picking Your Battles through Mindset Shifts

    18/07/2018 Duration: 12min

In this "Rev" episode, I share some recent experiences in picking my battles, mostly in my home life. This is something I have been working on a lot lately. I'm kind of a control-freak and I like things done my way, on my timeline and unfortunately, with a household that includes another adult, a toddler and a dog, life isn't always about me any more *shocking, I know*. Despite the fact that I find myself more exhausted and less patient during pregnancy, I know that in order to maintain harmony within the household, I have to learn to pick my battles when it comes to getting upset about the little things. Instead, I am focusing on the bigger picture and trying to shift my mindset and perspective in order to put myself into the position of the person who just so happens to be pushing my buttons (in this case, my husband or daughter). I think it's easy for us to take out anger and frustration on the people we love the most and in this episode I explain the things I am doing lately to keep the peace and be a bet

  • REV: Putting What You (or others) Preach into Practice

    11/07/2018 Duration: 13min

In this "Rev" episode, I share some recent experiences in putting what I preach in to practice and give you some things to think about this week on how you can start to put the things that you are feeling inspired by in to practice. Some suggestions include: Become that person (ie: “I am the kind of person who gets up early”), which is really just a mindset and self-talk / talk-out-loud shift Make it a mantra (ie: "Be Aware in Your Self Care", "If it’s not a Hell Yes, then it’s a no") Think about those ‘rules to live by’ and simplify them so they are constant reminders and, Practice makes perfect! When you’re faced with a decision where you KNOW you can put some of these mindset shifts or mantras in to practice - do it. The only way you are going to break away from your go-to reactions or habits, is putting the new ones in to practice, How has practicing what you preach (or what others preach) served you? • REV: How to Recover from a Meltdown (a reflection)

    05/07/2018 Duration: 13min

In this "Rev" episode, I share a little story of a recent meltdown. Not had by my toddler, but a meltdown that I had as a result of overwhelm and extreme emotions. I was inspired to share my story to remind other Mamas that if this has happened to you, you are not alone! It's easy to bury emotions, especially in front of our kids - it's also easy to completely reveal those big emotions to our kids. And it's Ok to experience those big emotions and express them. I think it's important for our kids to see us get emotional and work through those emotions, so they know it's Ok to be expressive. We talk a lot about controlling our emotions and learning techniques to reduce stress (ie: deep breathing) which I think is SUPER important, at the same time I also think it's important to give ourselves and our children grace when we have these 'meltdowns'. I hope this story speaks to you. If so, feel free to leave a comment on instagram over at @the_engine_mom. Support for this podcast comes from listeners like you! For
