  • 148: I'm Looking for Your Feedback for Episode

    25/02/2014 Duration: 12min

In this episode, I share just a couple things. The first thing is that I am guest posting this week on WholeDonkey.org: http://wholedonkey.org/guest-post-why-its-time-to-hurry-up-and-slow-down/ (Why It’s Time to Hurry Up and Slow Down) We have the tendency to hurry up and rush through everything in life. I got my driver’s license on my 16th birthday. The examiner gave me a perfect score and called me a defensive driver. I had only been behind the wheel for a month, so I was probably more scared than defensive. That title, however, was short lived. I got my first car shortly after that – just a little Hyundai Excel. It was not a racecar by far, but I pushed that little thing to the limit on my startups. I would see the light turn green and then floor it! I felt that there was no need wasting time getting up to the speed limit... He shares the story of how he began the journey in his own life that led to this book, starting with a sermon he was preparing: "The Impossible Becoming Possible." He refers to the story of Hugo Cabret, who was an orphaned boy that lived in a train station in Paris during the early 1930's. He became engaged in rebuilding a automaton. He deduces that the little mechanical man was just waiting to do what he's supposed to do - waiting for his purpose.

I read reports that the tornado on May 20 that went through Moore, OK, was between 1-2 miles wide. It's wind gusts were near 200 mph at times. It ranks among the worst tornadoes ever. If you are wanting to help give toward the relief effort, http://www.redcross.org/news/press-release/Red-Cross-Statement-on-Oklahoma-Tornado (the Red Cross) is a great way to do that. Hearing different stories and reflecting on the events has caused me to think about the things that are most important to me. Yes, there are many other disasters that can cause you to think about these, but this one (literally) hit close to home. • 113: Facing Risk in Your Life

    15/05/2013 Duration: 40min

In this episode, I reflect on risk. We face risks all the time. Sometimes the risks are small. Sometimes they are huge. We need to learn to properly handle risk. In Jon Acuff's book "Quitter," he has a chapter devoted to facing risk in light of pursing your dream job. Risk brings fear with it, which he also deals with in his newest book, "Start." These principles of facing risk also apply to every area of our lives. Here are some highlights from this chapter in his book: "Every dream has risk associated with it." "90 percent perfect and shared with the world always changes more lives than 100 percent and stuck in your head." "You have the perfect amount of time each day for the things that matter most." Questions: Are you getting paralyzed by the risks you face? Do you have anything that helps you conquer the fear?

    04/03/2013 Duration: 29min

Today, I have Mark Sieverkropp with me. The conversation was pre-recorded, and there was some background noise and a couple times of poor connection. Regardless of a couple minor issues, it was a great conversation about the importance of purpose. Below are some of the things we talked about. You'll need to listen to get the full content. Quote by John Maxwell in “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth”: People say there are two great days in a person’s life: the day you were born and the day you discover why. I want to encourage you to seek what you were put on this earth to do. Then pursue it with all your effort. Purpose answers the question "Why?" Purpose gives us reason. Your purpose needs to be bigger than yourself. Joshua's purpose was bigger than himself God has a purpose and plan for each of us If we don't fulfill our purpose, God finds someone else (Esther 4:14) Next episode, we will have a great interview with John G. Miller - the QBQ Guy! He has a new book out called "Parenting the QBQ Way"
