#15: Management of unilateral condyle fracture

Mandibular condylar fracture is the most frequent fracture site competing with the body of the mandible, with over 80% being unilateral. Despite their common occurrences, they present some of the biggest management challenges for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Coronectomy, a procedure involving intentional removal of dental crown while leaving the root in situ, is becoming more widely accepted treatment plan for mandibular third molars. In this talk, we help define and explain the rationale behind coronectomy based on current literature. We will discuss evidence based indications for treatment planning mandibular third molars with increased risk of nerve injury based on two- and three-dimensional imaging. We hope that after listening to this talk, you can make an educated decision on when to offer extraction vs coronectomy and risks involved with both procedures to obtain adequate consent.

There are many predisposing factors to OSA including craniofacial abnormalities or facial disproportions. The OSA is classified with Apnea Hypoapnea Index or Respiratory Disturbance Index. There are multiple treatment modalities in practice today from the most conservative treatment options to the most invasive ones. In this talk, we will try to present the most comprehensive summary of the pathophysiology and clinical features of OSA as well as present data on different treatment options to help you make the most evidence based decision on OSA.
