    17/07/2020 Duration: 38min

This episode begins by sharing a few updates, including a continuation of our conversation on anti-racism work, to encourage you to continue as well. In this episode I share how I am learning the differences between body liberation, the body positive movement and health at every size. Here at Nourishing Minds Nutrition, we will do a better job of showcasing those differences, and giving credit to those the movements were created for, Black marginalized bodies. Today on the podcast I have Erin Bahadur on the show. I love following and learning from Erin, she is real, honest and kind- and has the CUTEST baby, too! I also love her focus on mental health, and we discuss this at length in today’s episode. Erin is a recovering addict, personal trainer, writer, and mother living in North Carolina. Her blog, Erin's Inside Job, is a journey through her continued recovery and a reminder to others that true wellness comes from within. Active in the mental health and fitness communities, Erin has multiple years of experi

    14/07/2020 Duration: 14min

Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset!   The question of today’s podcast episode is...can you eat organic and practice intuitive eating? This episode may need a part two to explain more about what was discussed and get in more detail about the reasons to eat organic for your health, the health of our community and the health of the planet- but think of this as a starter conversation, making sure first you’re in a healthy place with your external health values, like eating organic, and making decisions that are aligning within the final principle of intuitive eating, called honor your health with gentle nutrition.   While you are going to hear me share my personal views on why I eat organic in  this episode, I believe it is so important to think critically and think for yourself when it comes to anything in the health and wellness world. I would even take it a step further to say I believe those who are against eating organic make valid and important arguments. I believe tho

  • 184: How Yoga and Intuitive Eating Compliment Each Other with Kara Lydon RD/N

    10/07/2020 Duration: 51min

I’ve always believed yoga is such a wonderful compliment to intuitive eating, and often recommend it to clients who are having a hard time exploring the mind body knowledge part of intuitive eating. Knowing that Kara is an expert in both areas, yoga and intuitive eating, I asked her to come on the show to discuss how they compliment each other. Kara Lydon, RD, LDN, RYT, is a nationally recognized and award-winning registered dietitian nutritionist, certified intuitive eating counselor, yoga teacher and the owner of Kara Lydon Nutrition. • 183: What is Seed Cycling and How to Do It

    07/07/2020 Duration: 13min

Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset! Today’s podcast I am going to share my thoughts on a common hormonal trend called seed cycling.   While food (meaning eating ENOUGH), reducing exercise, managing stress and sleeping enough are the primary factors  we look for to help our clients get their periods back, and get them consistent, there can be a time and place for gentle nutrition approaches.  This includes supplementation, acupuncture and other additions such as seed cycling!   Seed cycling works by helping support women with the nutrients their bodies need at specific phases of their cycle.   Seed cycling can be used to help with conditions such as amenorrhea, when getting off the birth control pill and even to manage PMS and period pain symptoms.   How to do it? Well it’s really simple and  you’ll learn all about it in this episode! You’ll also learn: Nutrients that seeds contain to support your menstrual cycle What lignans are and how they support the cycle Why its re

  • 182: Kate Eskuri on Building Foundational Health with Holistic & Realistic Self Care

    03/07/2020 Duration: 47min

Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset! In the introduction of today’s episode, I share what I’m learning inside the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings. As I read, I continue to learn how from the time the slave trade began in the 1500’s and as it continued through the 1800’s, the black body was used to justify slavery. White women and men viewed the black body as grotesque, wording depicted from literature quoted in the book from this timeframe. Religion and faith was also used to elevate thinness- believing that the ability to control fatness and control eating was attached with morality. It’s had me reflecting- NO WONDER now in 2020 we have such deeply ingrained beliefs that how we eat and what we look like is attached with superiority and morality. We can see this now ver badum in the health and wellness industry, both the view the controlling your eating makes you superior and that controlling your body weight makes you elevated, or better than. I hope know

    26/06/2020 Duration: 48min

This episode begins with a conversation on the anti-racism work I am learning and the white supremacy I am unlearning. Learn more: Instagram post shared, Waste Free Marie Instagram. Rachel Cargle Instagram account. On today’s episode, you’ll learn about trauma, how trauma gets stuck in our bodies, why we disconnect, and why we experience shame. This episode is necessary for all women (and for all that identify as women) as we’ve all experienced micro and possibly even macro traumas. What you’ll walk away with is the insight into how to FEEL your emotions to heal from trauma and connect back in to your body. This conversation may be heavy for some, and there is a trigger warning for those struggling with an active eating disorder. In this episode we discuss: How do we create a better sense of connection to our intuition. Why disconnection from

  • 180: The What, Why and How of CBD Oil with Ned Co-Founders Ret and Adrian

    19/06/2020 Duration: 59min

This episode begins with an update on my anti-racism education and what I’m learning. I share about the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings and how I’m learning how the body, and specifically the female body, was objectified and used as justification for slavery (and later became the root of diet culture). I also took at anti-racism course for wellness professionals this week by Chrissy King, where I was reminded of why wellness is for everyone but not always accessible for all because of oppression and discrimination. I learned how to become a better ally and the course helped me put into action changes we will make in my business to ensure we are an ally today and all days going forward. Today’s podcast is a long time coming, we are finally having a conversation about CBD oil!. I first became a fan of CBD oil when I started using it for my dog to improve his anxiety and seizures, and since have used it for the entire family as part of our wellness routines. There’s a lot of misinformation out t

  • Bonus Episode: Addressing Racism (Changes to the Podcast)

    12/06/2020 Duration: 08min

Thank you for listening to this episode.   Before we resume our usual content, I want to take a moment to talk with you today about what’s going on with systemic racism here in America.   As part of the #amplifymelanatedvoices challenge last week, I did not air a podcast episode or post any original content. Instead I shared BIPOC content and took a lot of time to listen, learn and reflect.   In that reflection, I am disappointed in myself. I acknowledge and apologize for my internalized racism- by being silent about white supremacy I was contributing to it. I had recently become aware of the racist roots of diet culture, and was trying to learn more about it before I shared it on the podcast- and as a look back I do believe that was a mistake.   For one, this is an ever ongoing journey to learn and unlearn, I kept waiting until I understood it better- but I’ll likely never feel fully equipped with all the knowledge I feel like I need. That’s my own perfectionism to work on- I didn’t want to speak if I couldn

What inspired Simi to create the Barre membership group, Unmeasured. Simi shares why its called Unmeasured and why she believes movement should be about joy, not punishment. Tips for ways we can let go of the perfectionism and “should-ing” on ourselves about our exercise habits. Exploratory questions you can begin asking yourself to determine if exercise that day would be an act of self care, versus exercising out of

  • 176: The Science Behind How Acupuncture Works (And Why it Helps Fertility) with Aimee Raupp MS, LAc

  • 175: How to Remove Fear About an All Foods Fit Mentality (+Cart Closes Today to Permission Stage Playbook!)

    19/05/2020 Duration: 17min

In the past dieting was, for the most part, about villainizing just a particular macronutrient, like carbs or fat, or villainizing calories in general. These days, you can find a reason on the internet to villainize literally any food out there.   The truth is, you can find research to support just about any claim out there. And while I think evidenced based protocols are highly important, we have to remember that doesn’t replace your unique, individual needs. Instead of taking the opinions of others and the rules and protocols and the diets around food, intuitive eating asks that you put all foods on an even playing field.   Cookies and burgers and kale and blueberries are all emotionally equivalent. By making them have no moral value higher than the other, you can tune in to how your body feels when you eat foods. Releasing the emotions around the food, allows you to tune in to your mind body knowledge on your hunger and fullness levels, your food preferences and cravings and discover what is both satisfyin

  • 174: Intuitive Eating is NOT Anti-Health

    15/05/2020 Duration: 17min

In our current world, the diet culture infused health and wellness one- we are told the only ways to obtain health are to: have a very specific body size, eat this not that and exercise as much as possible.   And when you hear about intuitive eating...   You fear that vegetables and all the foods you force yourself to eat to maintain your "healthy identity" will become foods you never eat again. In fact all your behaviors  you’re scared you’ll never do again.   And if that's a fear of yours, that may mean you've made the mistake of thinking intuitive eating is just eating "whatever you want". Or only ever eating ice cream. Or never exercising again. It’s another version of all or nothing thinking.   Intuitive eating is about promoting health and eating ALL foods (that feel medically or ethically best for you).   You need to learn to live life in the gray area, and discover what health really means to you. Health shouldn't be about black and white thinking, nor is it the small little actions but instead the su

  • 173: What Will Happen to My Weight When I Stop Dieting?

    12/05/2020 Duration: 15min

As we have been hosting our free workshops, Food Obsession to Food Flexibility, one of the #1 questions you’ve had for me is...well, what will happen to my weight?   And that fear is ultimately because you’re worried not only about your own fears, but also what people will think about your body changing...Statements like these and the *potential* thoughts and opinions of others really worry you.   But, here's the thing...This is your life. Your body. Your food liberation journey.   Your job in your life is not to spend it worrying about what others think or believe. Nor is to meant to be spent pleasing others, your job is to live your life how you desire.   Instead of viewing it as letting yourself go...could you consider letting yourself be?   Part of letting yourself be is going to be to stop micromanaging your body. To treat it with dignity, respect compassion and kindness. Can you imagine what that would feel like?   I know the anxiety about POTENTIALLY even gaining weight is crippling. Listen to today’s

    08/05/2020 Duration: 52min

In today’s podcast episode, with guest Emilie Hebert, we discuss whether or not eating vegan and intuitive eating can coexist. This episode may be one of my favorites to date! Emilie shares her disordered eating recovery journey, how she knew something was wrong with her relationship with food, and the steps she took to ensure recovery. How Emilie ensured she was NOT eating vegan as a way to control her body, and how she made sure she was still able to practice intuitive eating while respecting her morals and values. Exploratory questions you can ask yourself to ensure you are pursuing veganism for the right reasons, ones that are

  • 171: 3 Tips to Help You Embrace Unconditional Permission to Eat

    05/05/2020 Duration: 13min

Let me guess...You’ve been listening to this podcast for a long time, or maybe you’re a new listener. I’ve caught your ear on the fact that diets don’t work and YES your clean eating programs, switching from whole 30 to keto to vegan for weight loss to eliminating gluten without medical need to a juice cleanse...is just another form of dieting.   Diets don’t work for 95% of the population...and when I say “don’t work” I mean they don’t give you what they promise….Mind blown. You thought you were just eliminating bloat...trying to feel more energized...trying to lose those “last 10 lb”.   The worst part about dieting? It causes your body to go into survival mode in order to adapt to the inadequate intake it’s getting…meaning it’s no longer in thriving mode. Which is the reason you got into health and wellness in the first place!   Now, I know you’ve heard me talk about my absolute love for intuitive eating and maybe you’re intrigued. Maybe you’ve even gone so far to read the book, or listen to more podcasts li
